On weekends in Mysore there is a traditional “haat” or outdoor market. They sell everything from fruits and veg (like a US farmer’s market), to livestock (chickens, goats and lambs), spices, oils/implements for religious worship, and terra cotta pots for keeping water. We got some red chillis for cooking and some pots (for decorative purposes). We also learned to admire things from a distance and then send our Indian friend in to ask the price, because there is a marked difference between the price they quote her the price they quote me. Wow! That is a huge pile if Chilis! In the first photo what is the hot pink spice in the corner? I have never seen a spice that color before? It looks like you are having a great time! I love reading about your adventures!!

The pink “spice” is dye, for fabrics and ceremonies (like Holi).
