On weekends in Mysore there is a traditional “haat” or outdoor market. They sell everything from fruits and veg (like a US farmer’s market), to livestock (chickens, goats and lambs), spices, oils/implements for religious worship, and terra cotta pots for keeping water. We got some red chillis for cooking and some pots (for decorative purposes). We also learned to admire things from a distance and then send our Indian friend in to ask the price, because there is a marked difference between the price they quote her the price they quote me.
